Rhinoplasty, also called Nose Surgery, is performed to improve the appearance of the nose. Many people are unhappy with the nose they were born with, or become unhappy with their nose appearance after an injury. There are a number of common aesthetic complains regarding the nose such as bumps, indentations, the tip of the nose being too wide or narrow, the tip of the nose being too upturned or downturned, or the nostrils being uneven. Nose surgery may also correct functional issues inside the nose such as obstructions that make it difficult for air to flow in and out.
Nose surgery is typically performed through one of two methods: open or closed. An open rhinoplasty occurs when the incision is made on the exterior of the nose (usually on the thin strip between the nostrils), while a closed rhinoplasty occurs when the incisions are all made inside the nose (thereby leaving no visible scars).
