About Juvederm Voluma XC

While hollow, flat cheeks were popular in the 90s, classic beauty calls for full, voluminous cheeks that help you appear youthful and healthy. From the popular Juvéderm collection of nonsurgical dermal fillers, Voluma is uniquely formulated to give lift and contour to the mid-face for a more youthful look. At his private practice in Houston, TX, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Derek Lou offers treatments of Voluma to improve a sunken mid-face that is hollow and flat due to genetics, weight loss, or age. Giving you improvements that are visible for as long as two years, Voluma is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that helps your face feel softer and look smoother. Make an appointment to find out more about how Juvéderm Voluma injectable treatments at LouMD Med Spa may revive your overall appearance by adding lift and fullness.

Ideal Candidates

Voluma is an HA (hyaluronic acid) filler that can help add lift and contour to your mid-face. Many people see decreased fullness of the apples of their cheeks when they age or after they have dropped a significant amount of weight. Other people have a genetic predisposition to flat cheeks and may want treatment with Voluma to enhance this area. Female patients who are nursing or pregnant will not qualify for this injectable. Voluma by Juvéderm is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for patients 21 and older. You will complete a consultation to decide if Voluma is an effective filler for you. After considering your medical history, needs, and goals, a custom injectable treatment plan will be created.

Procedure Technique

After your consultation with Dr. Lou, your procedure may be planned for your next appointment or completed that day based on schedule availability. In a private room, you will be seated comfortably as your face is cleaned to prepare for the Voluma injections. The injector may also use a local anesthetic to help make the injections more comfortable if needed. For accuracy, your injector will mark the areas to be treated before inserting a fine-gauge needle. Once the filler is injected into your skin, you may experience mild redness and swelling, but this should subside quickly.

What to Expect

For many patients, the results of Voluma can be seen right away and last up to two years. It's highly uncommon to have lasting or severe reactions from this injectable; however, if you do have a reaction or concerns, please contact LouMD Med Spa for more information. Common side effects are light swelling, redness, or irritation of the treated area. These cases are almost always extremely minor. Talk to your injector about how soon to schedule your next treatment to either enhance or prolong the effects of Juvéderm Voluma.

Voluma FAQs

How much does Voluma cost?
The price of a Voluma treatment will vary greatly based on the amount of product that is needed to achieve your cosmetic goals. Since Voluma can last as long as two years, you should concentrate on choosing an injector who is skilled and experienced with Voluma instead of going somewhere that offers second-rate or extremely cheap fillers. Before your first treatment, a staff member will assess your skin and understand your needs before developing your personal treatment plan. Then, they will estimate how much Voluma will be used for your session, as well as the associated costs.

What is hyaluronic acid?
HA (hyaluronic acid) is a substance found naturally in your skin that binds water to cells. One of its functions is to secure moisture and build volume in the skin. Voluma, like other fillers in the Juvéderm family, is made with a synthetic hyaluronic acid. When the hyaluronic acid-based Voluma formula is injected, it restores volume to your cheeks and mid-face area. The HA in Voluma also improves your skin's ability to retain moisture so it is healthier and softer.

How long do the results from Voluma last?
Ideally, Voluma results can last for as long as two years. Right away, you should be able to see improvements from your treatment, which should continue to get better over the following month. You may need multiple Voluma injections, particularly if you want to significantly increase the volume in your mid-face. At your initial consultation, your injector will create your personal Voluma plan and discuss when to schedule your next appointment to maintain your results.

Is there any downtime needed after a Voluma treatment?
After a Voluma treatment session, you may resume your normal daily activities. However, it's recommended that exercise and other strenuous activities be skipped for at least one day. Your injector will go over what you can do at home to make sure your results look great and last a long time. You might place a cold compress over the treatment areas to minimize any bruising and swelling. Your injector might also recommend propping your head up with a few pillows while you sleep. You should not touch your face to avoid pushing the filler into other areas.

What are the possible side effects of Voluma?
Most patients have mild to moderate swelling and bruising in and around the treatment areas for up to one month. Other possible side effects after a Voluma treatment are firmness, tenderness, lumps, redness, discomfort, and itching. If any of these occur, Voluma side effects are typically only moderately uncomfortable. For any questions, side effects last longer than a month, or you have symptoms of an infection, please contact LouMD Med Spa.
